What does a WhatsApp chatbot cost a clinic in India?
Updated 9 min readFacts checked
Meta charges about ₹0.86 for each marketing template it delivers and ₹0.115 for each utility or authentication template, with replies free inside a 24-hour window. On top, chatbot vendors charge their own monthly plan, from free to over ₹15,000, and some mark up Meta's per-message rate too. Medslots charges a flat ₹4,999 a month with no per-message charges.
Key takeaways
- Meta charges per template message delivered, not per conversation, since 1 July 2025: about ₹0.8631 for marketing and ₹0.115 for utility or authentication.
- Replies inside the 24-hour customer service window are free. From 1 October 2026, that free allowance is capped at 1,000 service messages per phone number a month.
- Chatbot vendors charge a separate monthly plan on top of Meta's rate, and several also mark up Meta's per-message price rather than passing it through unchanged.
- Medslots charges a flat ₹4,999 a month per clinic, plus ₹2,500 for each extra branch, with no setup fee, no contract and no per-message charges.

Every WhatsApp chatbot quote hides two numbers: what Meta charges to deliver the message, and what the vendor charges on top. Here is what each one actually costs in India right now, sourced, plus the change coming on 1 October 2026 that most pricing pages have not caught up with yet.
What does Meta charge for WhatsApp messages in India?
Meta bills every WhatsApp Business Platform account per template message it delivers, not per conversation, a change that took effect on 1 July 2025 according to Meta's own pricing page (opens in a new tab). A template is a pre-approved message format, the kind a chatbot sends for a confirmation, a reminder, an OTP or an offer. There are three billable categories, and the rate depends on which one a message falls under.
| Message type | Meta's rate | Free inside the reply window? |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing template | About ₹0.8631 per message delivered | No, always billed |
| Utility template | About ₹0.115 per message delivered | Yes, until 30 Sep 2026 |
| Authentication template (OTP) | About ₹0.115 per message delivered | No, always billed |
| Service message (a reply, not a template) | Free today; from 1 Oct 2026, free up to 1,000 per number a month, then ₹0.115 | Yes, without limit until 30 Sep 2026 |
Sources: Meta for Developers: Pricing on the WhatsApp Business Platform (checked 17 Sep 2026); MyOperator: WhatsApp Business API Pricing in India 2026 (checked 17 Sep 2026).Meta raised the marketing rate for India by about 10% on 1 January 2026, from ₹0.7846 to ₹0.8631. Utility and authentication have stayed close to ₹0.115. 18% GST applies on top, as these are treated as imported digital services.
A clinic sending appointment confirmations pays the utility rate. A clinic running a reactivation campaign pays the marketing rate, which is more than seven times higher for the same volume of messages. The category a message is filed under, not the tool that sends it, decides most of the bill.
Which WhatsApp messages are still free?
Free WhatsApp cost comes from one thing: whether the patient wrote to your clinic first. Once a patient messages you, a 24-hour customer service window opens, and any reply you send inside it, template or not, is free. Outside that window, your clinic has to use a template, and templates are billed on delivery.
There is also a second free window worth knowing: messages sent after a patient taps a Click to WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page's WhatsApp button stay free for 72 hours, a "Free Entry Point" window, per Meta's pricing page (opens in a new tab). Useful if a clinic runs click-to-WhatsApp ads, less relevant for a patient who simply saves your number and writes in.
What do WhatsApp chatbot vendors charge on top?
A vendor's price is not Meta's price plus zero. Every chatbot tool built on the WhatsApp Business Platform charges its own monthly plan for the software, and several also charge their own per-message rate for template delivery, separate from what Meta actually charges them. The table below uses only prices each vendor has published on its own pricing page.
| Vendor, plan | Monthly platform fee | Per-message rate the vendor lists | Setup fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| AiSensy, Basic | ₹999 | ₹1.09 marketing, ₹0.145 utility or authentication | None (vendor states no setup fee) |
| AiSensy, Pro | ₹2,399 | Same as Basic | None (vendor states no setup fee) |
| Interakt, Growth | ₹2,799 + tax | ₹0.958 marketing, ₹0.150 utility, ₹0.128 authentication | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Interakt, Advanced | ₹3,799 + tax | ₹0.949 marketing, ₹0.140 utility, ₹0.127 authentication | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Gallabox, Basic | ₹2,999 (quarterly billing) | Billed separately, rate not published on the pricing page | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Gallabox, Essential | ₹6,999 (quarterly billing) | Billed separately, rate not published on the pricing page | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Wati, pay-as-you-go | ₹999 one-time, about 500 messages of credit | Included in the credit | None (vendor states zero-fee setup) |

Compare a vendor's listed rate against that before assuming it is a pass-through.
None of this makes a monthly plan the wrong choice. It means the plan fee is only part of the bill for a vendor priced this way; the number of templates your clinic sends each month decides the rest. A quiet month and a campaign month can land on very different totals from the same plan.
What other costs catch clinics out?
Beyond the plan fee and the per-message rate, three things turn a small headline number into a bigger bill: how templates get approved, what a contract locks you into, and who is spending time on the account.
- Template approval. Every template (a reminder, a confirmation, an offer) has to be submitted to Meta and approved before it can be sent. Approval is usually free, but a rejected template has to be rewritten and resubmitted, which costs time, not money, while your clinic waits.
- Contract length. Some vendors bill month to month; others ask for an annual commitment in exchange for a lower monthly rate, shown as the "yearly" price on several pricing pages above. A lower number attached to a year-long lock-in is a different offer from the same number month to month.
- Staff time. Someone still has to write templates in plain language, keep fees and timings current, and check what the bot is actually saying to patients. That is a real cost even on a plan with no line item for it.
There is a fourth cost a rate card never shows: whether the message is something a doctor should be sending at all. A WhatsApp "marketing" template used for an offer or a reactivation campaign is commercial outreach to people who did not ask for it, not a reply to an enquiry.
Ask any WhatsApp chatbot vendor before you sign
Is the per-message rate you quoted Meta's rate or your own?
Ask for the number, not just "WhatsApp charges extra".
Is there a setup fee, and is any of it refunded if I cancel?
How long is the contract, and can I leave after one month?
What happens to my bill in a month with more messages than usual?
Does the price shown include GST, or is it added at billing?
Is there a limit on how many templates I can have approved at once?
What does Medslots cost?
Medslots is priced as one flat number, not a plan plus a per-message rate. A clinic pays ₹4,999 a month, and an additional ₹2,500 a month for each extra branch. There is no setup fee, no contract, and no per-message charges added on top of that price. Billing starts the day the account goes live, usually within 24 hours of signup.
If you are comparing this to the WhatsApp Business Platform rates and vendor plans above: those numbers explain what Medslots itself has to plan around on the back end. They are not a separate charge that gets passed on to your clinic's bill.
How do I work out my clinic's monthly cost?
If you are comparing a per-message vendor against a flat price, the honest way to do it is with your own expected message counts, not a vendor's best-case example. Use Meta's own rate below as the floor; a vendor's bill will be at least this, usually more once its plan fee and any markup are added.

How this is worked out: Total = the vendor's monthly plan fee + (utility messages x ₹0.115) + (marketing messages x ₹0.8631). This uses Meta's own rate card; a vendor charging its own marked-up rate will come out higher. Nothing you type here is saved or sent anywhere.
For a plain comparison, Medslots' own monthly cost does not move with any of those three numbers: it stays ₹4,999 a month per clinic whatever your message volume looks like. A note for busier clinics
A dental, dermatology or fertility clinic running frequent recall or reactivation campaigns will send more marketing templates than a general practice replying only to enquiries. Since marketing is billed at over seven times the utility rate, that is the number worth checking most closely in any vendor quote, whatever else the plan includes.

Common questions
Is WhatsApp free for a clinic to use in India?
The free WhatsApp Business app is free to download and use by hand. A chatbot needs the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API), and Meta charges per template message delivered on that platform, with replies free inside a 24-hour window. Figures checked 17 Sep 2026.
What is Meta's current WhatsApp Business Platform price in India?
As of the rate card effective 1 July 2026, Meta lists about ₹0.8631 for each marketing template delivered and about ₹0.115 for each utility or authentication template, before 18% GST. These are Meta's own rates; a vendor may charge you more. Checked 17 Sep 2026.
What changes on 1 October 2026?
Two free allowances end. Service messages (your replies and bot messages that are not templates) have been free without limit since November 2024; from 1 October 2026 each phone number gets 1,000 free a month, then they are billed. Utility templates sent inside the 24-hour window, free since July 2025, also start being charged from that date.
Do WhatsApp chatbot vendors charge more than Meta's own rate?
Often, yes. Meta's rate card lists about ₹0.8631 for a marketing template, but published vendor rate cards show different figures for the same message, for example ₹1.09 from one vendor and around ₹0.95 from another, on top of a separate monthly plan. Ask any vendor whether their quoted rate is Meta's rate or their own.
Does Medslots charge per WhatsApp message?
No. Medslots has no per-message charges. The price is a flat ₹4,999 a month per clinic, plus ₹2,500 a month for each extra branch, with no setup fee and no contract. Billing starts the day your account goes live.
What should I ask a WhatsApp chatbot vendor before signing up?
Whether the per-message rate quoted is Meta's rate or the vendor's own, whether there is a setup fee, how long the contract runs, what happens in a month busier than usual, and whether the price shown includes GST. See the checklist in this post for the full list.
