A Practo or JustDial profile, or your own clinic website: what does each actually do?

Short answer

A Practo or JustDial profile puts you inside an app patients already search, free, but the platform sets the rules, shows other doctors on the same page, and often sits between you and the reply. Your own website has none of that: it shows only you and sends the enquiry straight to your phone.

Key takeaways

  • Both Practo's basic listing and JustDial's basic listing are free. Practo Prime charges clinics and hospitals a one-time fee per patient connection, and JustDial sells paid promotion, but neither publishes the amount.
  • Practo verifies your medical registration before your profile goes live and its guidelines set what you can say. JustDial's process is a self-serve form. Your own website has neither gatekeeper, only the rules that already apply to you as a doctor.
  • A profile on Practo or JustDial sits on a page built to compare doctors, so other clinics show up right next to yours. Your own website shows only you.
  • An agency's own April to June 2026 test found third-party presence (like Practo) and consistent details across many places outperformed a strong website with a thin footprint elsewhere, so the two are not a straight swap for AI-answer visibility either.

A front-desk manager already knows two names by heart: Practo and JustDial, the apps everyone searches. Fewer clinics have a website worth visiting. This isn't a case for picking one over the other. It's what each actually does, who is in charge of the page once it's live, and what that's worth to a small clinic.

What is a Practo or JustDial profile, and what is your own website?

A Practo or JustDial profile is a listing on someone else's app, built so a patient can search and compare doctors in one place. Your own website is a page you build and keep, with your own domain, that says whatever you put on it.

Who actually controls the page once it's live?

You can edit both a Practo and a JustDial profile yourself, but "edit" is not the same as "control on your own terms". Each platform sets what you're allowed to put on the page, and checks it before it goes out.

On Practo, the registration details you submit are verified against state and national medical councils before the profile goes live, and separate profile guidelines rule out things like a tagline in the clinic name, discounts or offers, and writing about yourself in the first person, according to Practo's own profile guidelines (opens in a new tab). JustDial's process is a simpler self-serve form, per JustDial's free-listing page (opens in a new tab), with less written guidance published about what content is and isn't allowed.

Your own website has neither gatekeeper. Nobody verifies it before it goes live and nobody else's content guidelines apply to it, only the rules that already apply to you as a doctor wherever you publish: NMC's code on fees, qualifications and self-promotion, and ASCI's advertising code. Our guide to what an Indian clinic website needs covers those in detail. Control here means the page says only what you put on it, and nothing more.

Who does the patient's reply actually reach?

This is the part a plain feature list misses: once a patient acts on what they see, where does that message actually go?

On Practo, an instant booking is confirmed inside Practo's own system, with the appointment synced to the clinic's calendar and a confirmation sent to both the patient and the clinic, per Practo's own explanation of the patient journey (opens in a new tab). Where instant booking isn't set up, a patient calls the clinic through Practo's own phone system, rather than dialling your number directly. On JustDial, an enquiry typically reaches you as a call or a lead notification through JustDial's own system. On your own website, a WhatsApp or call button that opens a chat or dials on one tap sends the message straight to your phone, with no platform routing it in between.

Where a patient's message actually landsThree columns. Left, Practo profile: patient taps Instant Book, or calls the clinic through Practo's own phone system, arrow down to a box saying the booking runs through Practo, which sends the confirmation to both sides. Middle, JustDial listing: patient calls or messages the number shown, arrow down to a box saying the enquiry reaches you as a call or notification from JustDial. Right, in green, your own website: patient taps your WhatsApp or call button, arrow down to a box saying it goes straight to your phone, nothing in between.Practo profilePatient taps Instant Book, or calls via Practo's phone systemBooking runs through PractoPracto sends the confirmation to you and the patientJustDial listingPatient calls or messages the number shownReaches you as a JustDial leadA call or notification from JustDial's own systemYour own websitePatient taps your WhatsApp or call buttonStraight to your phone or WhatsAppNo platform in between
Practo and JustDial both put a step of their own system between the patient and your phone. Your website's WhatsApp or call button doesn't.

What does each one cost?

None of the three has a single published subscription price the way software usually does. Here is what is actually confirmed.

What's confirmed about cost
Basic listingPaid optionAmount published?
PractoFree, separate from any paid productPracto Prime: a one-time technology fee, charged to the clinic or hospital the first time a patient connects through it, valid 6 monthsNo. Practo does not publish the fee
JustDialFreePaid promotion: featured listings, banner ads, lead packages, paid monthly or yearlyNo. JustDial does not publish set prices for these
Your websiteNo listing fee, because there is no listingDomain, hosting and building it, whether you use a website builder or hire someoneNot one price. It varies by provider and by how you build it

Ask each platform directly for a current quote rather than relying on a third-party estimate.

How does each show up in Google and AI answers?

Practo and JustDial pages can rank in Google search on their own, and both are the kind of page ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode read when they build an answer about your clinic. Your own website can rank directly for your clinic's name and services, and is the one page you fully control the wording on when an AI tool reads it. Our guide to how AI answers pick a clinic covers this in more depth; the short version is that these tools read every page that names you, not only your website.

That is worth taking seriously rather than assuming a better website wins on its own. One healthcare marketing agency's own test across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode, run April to June 2026, found a clinic with strong Practo visibility and consistent details across many directories was mentioned more often in AI answers than a competitor with a stronger website but a thin footprint everywhere else, according to DoubleSure's published write-up of the test (opens in a new tab). It is one agency's own test, not an independent study, so treat it as indicative rather than a rule. But the direction is a useful correction to any advice that treats your website as the only thing that matters for AI visibility.

Why does keeping details identical across all three matter?

A patient who sees a different phone number on JustDial than on your website loses a little trust. A tool building an AI answer from several pages that disagree loses more, because agreement across sources is part of how it decides what to repeat, per Google's own guidelines for representing a business (opens in a new tab) and the DoubleSure test above. Consistency, not which single page looks best, is what actually compounds.

Same everywhere, checked together, not one at a time

  • Clinic name, exact spelling, no added tagline.

Practo and JustDial both reject taglines and generic words in the name field.

  • Address and phone number.

Match your Google Business Profile and your website, not just each other.

  • Timings, including the weekly off.

  • Fees for common services, if you publish them anywhere.

A number that's out of date on one page but not another is worse than not publishing it at all.

  • Recheck after any change.

A new phone number or address means updating Practo, JustDial, Google and your website in the same sitting, not whenever you next remember.

So what should a small clinic actually do?

A practical order, for a clinic without a marketing team:

  • Get a basic website up, even a simple one. It is the one page with no listing rules and no competing doctor shown beside you, and it is what a Google search on your clinic's own name should lead to.
  • Claim the free Practo and JustDial listings too. They cost nothing, and patients genuinely search inside both. Skipping them to "protect" your website gives up a free, working channel for no real gain.
  • Hold off on Practo Prime or JustDial's paid promotion at first. Neither publishes its price, so get a quote, and judge it against what patients from that specific platform are actually worth to you before committing.
  • Whichever you run, keep the name, address, phone and timings identical everywhere. That single habit does more for how you show up, on Google and in AI answers, than choosing the "right" one of these three.

None of this is a case against Practo or JustDial. It is what each one is actually for, alongside a website you own outright, not instead of it. For the fuller comparison that also covers WhatsApp AI receptionists, see our post on Practo, Google Business Profile and WhatsApp AI.

Common questions

Is a Practo or JustDial profile free for a clinic?

The basic listing is free on both, according to each platform's own setup page. Practo Prime is a separate, paid product: it charges the clinic or hospital a one-time technology fee the first time a patient uses it to connect, valid for 6 months, and Practo does not publish the amount. JustDial also sells paid promotion such as featured listings and banner ads on top of the free listing, and does not publish set prices for that either.

Do I still need a website if I already have a Practo and JustDial profile?

Most small clinics benefit from both, because they do different jobs. Practo and JustDial put you in front of a patient who is comparing doctors inside their app. Your own website is the one place with no listing rules, no competing doctor shown next to you, and an enquiry that reaches you with nothing in between.

Who actually controls what my Practo or JustDial profile says?

You edit it, but within limits the platform sets, not entirely on your own terms. Practo verifies your medical registration against state and national councils before the profile goes live, and its own guidelines rule out things like taglines in your name, discounts, or first-person writing. Practo's own help page also states it does not take responsibility for the accuracy of what's shown, which is a reason to check your profile yourself rather than assume it stays correct on its own.

Does my own website help me show up in ChatGPT or Google's AI answers more than Practo or JustDial does?

Not by itself. One agency's own test across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode, run April to June 2026, found a clinic with strong Practo visibility and consistent details across many directories was mentioned more than a competitor with a better website but a thin footprint elsewhere. Treat that as one agency's indicative test, not a rule, but the direction matches what our own guide to AI answers for clinics covers: these tools read every page that names you, not just your website.

Do Practo and JustDial show my competitors on the same page as my listing?

Yes, by design. Both are built as apps where a patient searches by specialty or locality and compares doctors, so other clinics in your area and specialty typically appear alongside you. Your own website is the one place that shows only your clinic.

Is Medslots a listing site like Practo or JustDial?

No. Medslots doesn't list your clinic on a marketplace or a directory. It's a WhatsApp AI receptionist that replies to patients who message your clinic directly and books the appointment, plus it keeps your Google Business Profile current. It costs ₹4,999 a month per clinic, with no setup fee.
