Does your clinic's name, address and phone match everywhere online?

Short answer

Not always. A 2026 ranking-factors report found citation consistency now matters more for AI search visibility than for Google's local pack, and an India-specific AI-search agency warns that a clinic listed under three different names risks AI tools treating it as three separate businesses. Check each listing with the audit and worksheet below.

Key takeaways

  • Google's own guidelines say a business name, address and phone must match your real-world signage, website and other listings exactly, and every location of a chain must use the same name.
  • Whitespark's 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors report found citation consistency counts for less in Google's local pack than it used to, but far more for whether AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini mention a business at all.
  • An India-specific AI-search agency, DoubleSure, warns that a clinic listed under three different names across its website, Practo and Justdial risks AI tools treating it as three separate businesses instead of one; this is the agency's own illustrative example, not a documented case.
  • Check at least six places: Google Business Profile, your clinic website, Practo, Justdial, your WhatsApp Business profile and your Facebook or Instagram page, then recheck monthly or after any move.

Patients do not only see your clinic on your own website. They see it on Google Maps, Practo, Justdial, WhatsApp and wherever a search or an AI answer sends them. If the name, address or phone number reads differently in each place, that is not just untidy. It changes what search engines and AI tools understand about your clinic.

What is NAP consistency, and why does it matter for a clinic?

NAP stands for name, address and phone number, the three basic facts that identify a business. Consistency means every place your clinic appears online states these the same way, down to how a road name is abbreviated or whether a suite number is included.

This is not a guess about what search engines prefer. Google's own Business Profile guidelines say your business name should reflect your clinic's real-world name, the one used on your signage, your website and your stationery, and that every location of a chain must use the same name and, where the service is the same, the same category, in Google's guidelines for representing your business (opens in a new tab). A single-location clinic and a small multi-branch group are both covered by that same rule.

Why do search engines and AI answers care about matching details?

Matching business details across the web has been a local-search trust signal for years. What has changed recently is which use of that signal carries more weight.

Read the two columns side by side. Citation consistency has drifted down the list of what moves Google's map pack. For the newer question, whether an AI tool mentions your clinic at all, the same kind of signal scores near the top. A page that only quotes the local-pack number, which most generic NAP guides do, is telling half the story.

An illustrative example: one clinic, three names

DoubleSure (opens in a new tab), a healthcare marketing agency, tested how AI search engines answer patient queries in India between April and June 2026. In writing up that test, it gives a hypothetical example, not a clinic it says it actually found: a clinic listed under three different names, one version on its own website, a second on Practo, a third on Justdial, and warns that AI engines "may see three different entities rather than one recognized practice" in that situation, instead of combining the mentions into a single confident answer.

How one mismatched address confuses an AI answerThree boxes on the left show the same clinic's name written three different ways: as it appears on its own website, on Practo and on Justdial. Arrows point from all three into one box on the right, which reads: AI sees three different clinics, not one recognised practice.Your website'[Clinic name] Ortho Centre'Practo'[Clinic name] Clinic'JustdialDr [Doctor name]'s PracticeAI sees three different clinicsnot one recognised practice
Illustrative names for a hypothetical example, not a real clinic. The point is the mismatch, not the wording.

That is one agency's own illustration, not a documented finding or independent research, so treat the pattern as a pointer rather than proof. The underlying mechanism is still worth taking seriously: an AI model is matching text across sources to work out what it is looking at, and a clinic that reads as three different names gives it three different things to match.

Where does your clinic's name, address and phone actually live?

Most clinics have at least six places to check, and each one is edited and confirmed differently.

How do I audit every listing for my clinic?

Do this on a laptop with each platform open in its own tab, and keep your clinic's signage or letterhead next to you as the reference.

  1. Step 1: Pick one master version

Write down the exact name, address and phone you want everywhere, usually matching your signage and clinic website.
  2. Step 2: Check Google Business Profile

Compare the profile's name, category, address, phone and hours against your master version.
  3. Step 3: Check your clinic website

Look at the header, footer and contact page for the same details, word for word.
  4. Step 4: Check Practo

Open your clinic or doctor profile and compare it line by line.
  5. Step 5: Check Justdial

Search your clinic's name and area, and claim the listing if you have not already.
  6. Step 6: Check WhatsApp and social pages

Open Settings, then Business tools, then Business profile in WhatsApp, then your Facebook and Instagram About sections.

My clinic moved or changed its number. What do I fix first?

Update in the order below. Your own website first, since Practo, Justdial and AI tools all tend to treat it as the reference version when they check your details.

Update your details in this order after a move or a new number

  • Your clinic website.

The header, footer and contact page, and any schema markup your developer added.

  • Google Business Profile.

Mark the profile as moved rather than creating a new one. See our guide to fixing wrong details on Google Maps for the exact steps.

  • Practo.

Changes are checked and go live after about 24 hours, per Practo's own help page.

  • Justdial.

Claim or edit the listing; Justdial verifies it with an OTP to your registered mobile number.

  • WhatsApp Business profile.

Update the address, hours and description fields in Business tools.

  • Facebook and Instagram business pages.

Update the About section on each page you actually use.

How do I keep it consistent going forward?

A one-time audit fades within a few months as listings drift back out of sync. Print the sheet below, fill it in today, and recheck monthly or straight after any move, new number or name change.

Common questions

What does NAP consistency mean for a clinic?

NAP stands for name, address and phone number. Consistency means every place your clinic appears online, your website, Google Business Profile, Practo, Justdial, WhatsApp and social pages, states these the same way, including small details like how a road name is abbreviated.

Does NAP consistency still affect Google Maps rankings?

Whitespark's 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors report ranks citation consistency lower among the factors that move Google's local pack than it once was. It ranks much higher among the factors the same survey links to being mentioned by AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini. Checked 17 Sep 2026.

Why would an AI tool care if my address is written slightly differently on Practo?

DoubleSure, an agency that tested AI search for Indian patient queries, gives the hypothetical example of a clinic listed under three different names across its own website, Practo and Justdial, and warns this risks the AI treating the clinic as three separate businesses instead of recognising one practice. That is the agency's own illustration, not an observed case or independent research, so treat it as a pointer rather than proof.

My clinic moved. What should I update first?

Update your own website first, since other platforms and AI tools tend to treat it as the reference version. Then work through Google Business Profile, Practo, Justdial, your WhatsApp Business profile and any social pages, in that order.

How often should I recheck my listings?

Once a month is a reasonable habit, and always straight after a move, a new phone number or a name change. The worksheet in this post gives you a place to note the date each time.

Can Medslots update my Practo or Justdial listing for me?

No. Medslots keeps your Google Business Profile current as part of its flat ₹4,999-a-month plan, using approved Google Business Profile API access. It does not manage Practo, Justdial, WhatsApp or social profiles; you update those directly with the platforms themselves.
