Is ChatGPT recommending your clinic? A 5-minute check

Medslots team, Letex Media Co.How we write and check facts

Updated 11 min readFacts checked

Short answer

Open ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Mode on your phone and ask the six questions below, once in English and once in Hindi, using your area and specialty. Note whether your clinic is named, whether its details are right and which websites are cited. That tells you where you stand today and what to fix first.

Key takeaways

  • Ask the same 6 questions in ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Mode, in English and in Hindi, and write down what you see.
  • The usual reasons a clinic is missing: details that don't match across sites, a thin Google profile, few other sites mentioning you, and a website that doesn't state the basics.
  • Google says no special schema or AI files are needed for its AI answers. Plain, correct, consistent facts matter more.
  • We know of no way to buy a place inside ChatGPT's answer. Be wary of anyone who promises one.

Some patients now ask an AI tool which clinic to visit. You can see what they are told in a few minutes, from your own phone.

This post is a do-it-yourself check. It needs no software and no agency. For the wider picture of how patients find clinics online, start with our guides for clinic owners.

What should I ask ChatGPT about my clinic?

Ask the questions a patient in your area would type, with your real specialty, area and city filled in. Six are enough to see the pattern.

The 6 questions to ask
Question (fill in the brackets)What it tells you
1. Best [specialty] clinic near [area], [city]?Whether you are named at all when a patient asks the broad question
2. Which [specialty] clinics in [city] are open on Sunday?Whether the tool knows your timings, and whether they are right
3. Tell me about [Clinic name], [city]What the tool believes about you: address, phone, services, doctor's name
4. [Clinic name] fees for [common service]?Whether it quotes a fee, and where that fee came from
5. [area] mein accha [specialty] clinic kaunsa hai?Whether you show up when the patient asks in Hindi or Hinglish
6. Is [Clinic name] good for [common service]?Which sites and reviews the tool leans on when it judges you

Source: ASCI: The ASCI Code (checked 17 Sep 2026).Question 1 uses the word best only because patients type it. Don't use it about your own clinic: advertising codes expect claims of being better than others to be backed by evidence.

Here is how to run it without it taking over your afternoon.

  1. Step 1: Start with ChatGPT

    5 min

Ask all six questions in one sitting. This is the 5-minute part.
  2. Step 2: Repeat in Gemini

    5 min

Same six questions, same wording, same phone.
  3. Step 3: Repeat in Google's AI Mode

    10 min

Once in English, then once in Hindi.
  4. Step 4: Look at the links

Tap the cited sources. They show you which sites the answer came from.
  5. Step 5: Write it down

Fill in the worksheet below with today's date.

Answers change with location, account and the day. One agency testing AI search for Indian doctors says the same thing about its own results. Treat one check as a snapshot, not a verdict.

What should I write down?

Write down three things for each tool: were you named, were your details right, and which websites were cited. The cited sites matter most, because they are where fixes happen.

Worksheet

Why doesn't ChatGPT mention my clinic?

Usually because the tool can't find enough clear, matching facts about you. Nobody outside these companies knows exactly how each answer is put together, but four causes come up again and again, and you can check each one.

Score yourself before you dig deeper

This is a quick self-check we built for this guide, not a score any AI company issues or verifies. It gives you a rough sense of where to start looking.

Named, but only a directory is citedYour website doesn't state the basicsYour own website
An old address or a closed branchOld listings still liveDirectories and old Google listings

Your name, address and phone don't match across sites

If Google says one phone number, Practo another and your website a third, a tool may pick the wrong one or skip you. Small differences count too: "[Name] Dental Care" on one site and "[Name] Dental Clinic" on another can read as two places.

Your Google Business Profile is incomplete

Google's own advice for local results is to complete and verify your profile, keep your hours accurate, respond to reviews and add photos. Google also says prominence depends partly on links, reviews and ratings. Our post on how to add your clinic on Google Maps walks through setting up, claiming and verifying the listing.

Few other trustworthy sites mention you

Your own website is only one voice. A test by DoubleSure, a healthcare marketing agency, across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Mode in five Indian cities found that clinics with a presence on sites like Practo and in local publications appeared more often. That is one agency's own test, so read it as a pointer, not proof.

There is also a free government option specific to India: the Health Facility Registry (opens in a new tab) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. It takes your clinic's name, address, type and specialty into a national database.

Your own website doesn't state basic facts plainly

If your services, timings and address sit inside an image or a PDF, a tool may not read them. Google asks that important content be available as text. Also ask your web developer one question: does the site block OAI-SearchBot? OpenAI says sites that opt out of it are not shown in ChatGPT search answers.

What can I fix myself?

Most fixes are about being clear and consistent, and none of them cost money.

Fixes in your own hands

  • Use the same clinic name, address and phone number everywhere.

Google profile, website, Practo, JustDial, Facebook, WhatsApp Business profile.

  • Complete your Google Business Profile.

Category, hours including Sunday, services, photos of the clinic entrance and waiting area.

  • Put the plain facts on your website as text.

Services, timings, address, doctors' names and qualifications, and fees if you choose to publish them.

  • Keep Practo and other listings accurate, and close old ones you no longer use.

  • Register on the government's Health Facility Registry, free.

One more place your name, address and specialty sit consistently. Register at facility.abdm.gov.in.

  • Ask every patient for a Google review the same way, with nothing offered in return.

Google's policy bars incentives and asking only the patients you expect to be happy.

  • Check your website does not block the crawlers of the tools you care about.

Ask your web developer to look at the robots.txt file.

  • Run the same check again next month and compare the worksheets.

Stating facts is fine. Talking yourself up is not.

Everything above pushes you to make your name, address, services and timings clear and consistent. That is different from making yourself sound impressive, and Indian rules treat the second one as misconduct, not just weak marketing.

In practice: list your qualifications, registration number and the services you offer as plain facts. Skip words like "best," "renowned" or "highly skilled," and skip any claim about outcomes or success rates you cannot back with data. Dentists carry a near-identical restriction under the Dental Council of India's 2014 ethics regulations (opens in a new tab), which call boastful claims and demeaning solicitation unethical while permitting the same kind of factual announcements.

What doesn't work?

Shortcuts that promise a place in AI answers either break a platform's rules or rest on claims the platforms themselves contradict.

  • Buying reviews or offering something for them. Google's policy prohibits payment, discounts or free services in exchange for reviews, and bars selectively asking for positive ones. See Google's content policy for Maps (opens in a new tab).
  • "Secret schema" or special AI files. Google says none are needed for its AI features. Markup is not a switch that puts you in the answer.
  • Paying anyone who promises a ranking. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. OpenAI says ads in ChatGPT do not influence its answers. See Google's tips on local ranking (opens in a new tab).

Common questions

Can I pay to appear in ChatGPT's answers?

We know of no way to buy a place in the answer itself. OpenAI says ads in ChatGPT are labelled as sponsored, kept separate from the answer, and do not influence what ChatGPT says. Be wary of anyone who promises to put your clinic inside the answer for a fee.

Does schema markup get my clinic into AI answers?

Not on its own. Google says there is no special schema you need to add to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and OpenAI's own documentation for its web search tool does not list schema as something that affects what gets cited either. One Indian agency's own test saw clinics with schema appear more often, but that is an observation, not a rule. Be wary of anyone who sells schema markup as the single fix. Get your name, address, phone, timings and services right and consistent first.

How often should I check?

Once a month is enough for most clinics. Use the same questions, the same phone and the same area each time, and note the date. Check again soon after you change your address, phone number or timings, because old details can take time to disappear.

Why does ChatGPT show a clinic that closed?

AI tools repeat what they can find on the web. If an old directory page, a news item or a Google listing still shows the clinic as open, the answer can repeat it. Update or close the old listings you control, and use the feedback option inside the AI tool to report the wrong answer.

Could trying to look good to ChatGPT get me in trouble with medical ethics rules?

It can, if you cross from stating facts into talking yourself up. Clause 6.1.1 of the Medical Council of India's 2002 ethics regulations calls it unethical for a physician to advertise in a way that draws attention to their professional position, skill, qualification or achievements. Dentists carry a near-identical restriction under the Dental Council of India's 2014 regulations. Stick to plain facts: name, address, services, timings and registration number, and you stay on the right side of both the AI tools and the regulator.

ChatGPT mein apna clinic kaise laayein?

Koi paid shortcut nahi hai. Pehle check karein: ChatGPT, Gemini aur AI Mode mein apne area aur specialty ke saath sawaal poochhein, English aur Hindi dono mein. Phir basics theek karein: har jagah same naam, address aur phone, poora Google Business Profile, aur website par timings aur services saaf likhi hon. Har mahine dobara check karein.
