How do I add my clinic on Google Maps?

Short answer

To add your clinic on Google Maps, go to business.google.com/add, enter the clinic's real name, pick a category, add the address and phone number, then verify. If the clinic already shows on Maps, search for it and select "Claim this business" instead. It is free, and Google explains every step in its help pages.

Key takeaways

  • Adding or claiming a clinic on Google is free. Start at business.google.com/add, or claim the listing if the clinic already shows on Maps.
  • Use the name on your signboard, one main category, the address where patients are seen and a phone number the clinic answers.
  • Keep the clinic's own Google account as the owner. Give staff and agencies manager access instead.

What do you need before you start?

You need the clinic's own Google account and six details that match what patients see on the street. Google's guidelines for representing your business (opens in a new tab) check each of these, so get them right before you open the form.

Keep ready

  • The clinic's real name, exactly as it is on the signboard.

Google wants the real-world name used on your board, website and stationery.

  • The full address, and where the entrance is on the map.

Floor and building number help. You can place the pin yourself if Google can't find the address.

  • A phone number the clinic controls and actually answers.

Google asks for a number under the business's direct control, not a call centre line.

  • Opening hours, including the days you are closed.

  • One main category that describes the clinic.

For example, the closest match to your speciality.

  • A Google account the clinic owns, not a staff member's or an agency's.

Whoever owns the listing can add or remove other people and even delete it.

Should the listing be in the clinic's name or the doctor's?

Start with the clinic's name. Google treats doctors as individual practitioners, who can have their own profile if they can be reached at that address during stated hours.

How do you add a new clinic, step by step?

Open business.google.com/add, select Add your business to Google and follow the on-screen instructions. The form collects the details below, then asks you to verify. Google's add or claim help page (opens in a new tab) lists these same steps.

  1. Step 1: Open business.google.com/add

Sign in with the clinic's own Google account. Then select Add your business to Google.
  2. Step 2: Enter the clinic's real name

Type the name exactly as it is on your signboard and prescription pad. No "best", no area name, no list of treatments.
  3. Step 3: Choose one main category

Pick the most specific category that completes "This clinic is a...". Google asks for as few categories as possible, and never categories used as keywords.
  4. Step 4: Add the address and place the pin

Enter the full address, then check the pin sits on your building. Show the address only if patients are seen there during your stated hours.
  5. Step 5: Add phone, website and hours

Use a number the clinic answers. If you see patients only by appointment, note that Google's guidelines list businesses that operate only by appointment among those that shouldn't show hours.
  6. Step 6: Verify the listing

Pick one of the options Google shows you. Until you verify, you can't manage how the clinic shows on Google.

The phone drawings are illustrations, not real Google screens. Follow what you see on your own phone.

What if your clinic is already on Google Maps?

Claim the existing listing instead of making a new one. Google allows only one profile per business, and a profile marked as a duplicate does not show on Search or Maps. First search Google Maps for the clinic's name and city, then follow the path that matches what you find.

Add, claim or request access

Add, claim or request access to a clinic listingSearch Google Maps for the clinic name and city. If the clinic is not on Maps, add it at business.google.com/add. If it is on Maps but not verified, select Claim this business, then Manage now. If someone else already manages it, select Request access; the current owner has 3 days to respond. • On a computer: open Google Maps, search the clinic's name and city, then select Claim this business and Manage now.
  • In the Google Maps app: search the clinic, open it, tap About, then Claim this business and Manage now.
  • If you see "Someone else may manage this Business Profile": select Request access and fill in the form. Google emails the current owner, who has 3 days to respond. If there is no reply, you may get the option to claim it yourself, though Google says that option isn't always available.

This often happens when an old receptionist or agency made the listing on their own account. See Google's request ownership help page (opens in a new tab).

What if your clinic has more than one branch?

Add or claim each branch as its own profile. Google's rule that there should be only one profile per business (opens in a new tab) applies branch by branch: every address is treated as its own business, so one profile should not carry several addresses.

Managing more than one clinic branch on Google
How many branchesWhat to do
Just this oneAdd or claim it the way described above.
2 to 9 branchesAdd or claim each branch separately, the same way, then bring them together under a business group so staff can move between profiles without signing out and in each time.
10 or more branchesUse bulk location management: create a business account, list every branch in Google's bulk-upload spreadsheet with its own code, upload it, then request verification for all of them together.

Sources: Google Business Profile Help: Bulk location management overview (checked 17 Sep 2026); Google Business Profile Help: About business groups (checked 17 Sep 2026).A business group is Google's own description: a shared folder for your profiles, used to divide access safely among staff.

Each branch keeps its own name (in the same format), address, phone number, hours, photos and reviews. A patient searching near one branch should find that branch, not a profile whose address is across town.

How does Google verify a clinic?

Google picks the verification options for you, based on business type, public information, region and hours, and you can't change them. Some clinics are asked for more than one. Here is what each option involves, from Google's verification help page (opens in a new tab).

Verification options Google may show a clinic
OptionWhat you doWorth knowing for a clinic
Phone or SMSSelect Get verified, then Phone or SMS, and enter the code on your profile.Google says phone menus (IVR systems) won't get the code, so answer on a line a person picks up.
EmailSelect Get verified, then Email, and follow the steps in the email.Use an email address you can open on the spot.
Video recordingRecord a live video from your phone through the profile and upload it.At least 30 seconds, unedited, showing the street, the name board and proof you run the clinic. No other people's faces, so film when no patients are around.
Live video callJoin a video call with a Google representative and show the clinic.Only available during your listed business hours, and you need to be at the clinic.
PostcardGoogle posts a 5-digit code to the address; you enter it on the profile.Google says most codes arrive within 14 days and expire after 30. Don't edit the name, address or category while you wait.

Sources: Google Business Profile Help: Verify your business on Google (checked 17 Sep 2026); Google Business Profile Help: Verify your business with a video recording (checked 17 Sep 2026).Google says reviews can take up to 5 business days, sometimes longer. That is an estimate, not a promise.

What mistakes do clinics make on Google Maps?

Most problems come from a name, pin or account that does not match the real clinic. Each fix follows Google's published rules.

What if Google suspends, disables, or wrongly closes your listing?

Appeal a suspension from inside the Business Profile appeals tool, and reopen a wrongly closed listing from your own dashboard. Neither needs an agency, and neither happens instantly.

If your profile is suspended or disabled

Suspensions usually follow one of the mistakes in the table above: a name with extra words, an address Google can't verify, or a second profile for the same clinic. Google's help page on fixing suspended or disabled profiles (opens in a new tab) sets out the appeal steps.

  1. Step 1: Open the Business Profile appeals tool

Sign in with the Google account that owns the profile, or switch accounts if needed.
  2. Step 2: Select the suspended profile

Google shows you the restriction reason and the policy it says the profile broke.
  3. Step 3: Submit the appeal

Select Submit appeal, then Submit. If Google asks for evidence, you get 60 minutes to upload it before the form closes.
  4. Step 4: Wait for a decision by email

Google reviews the appeal and emails a decision. It does not promise a date.

Documents Google says can strengthen an appeal include your business registration, a business licence, tax certificates, or a recent utility bill in the clinic's name, such as electricity or water.

If Google marks your clinic "permanently closed" by mistake

This can happen after a renovation, a long holiday closure, or a patient wrongly reporting the clinic shut. Fix it from your own dashboard rather than waiting for Google to notice.

  1. Sign in and open your Business Profile.
  2. Select Edit profile, then Hours.
  3. In Business hours, select Edit, then Open with main hours.
  4. Tick the days you are open and set your hours for each.
  5. Select Save.

Google's help page (opens in a new tab) makes one exception: if the profile was marked closed because the clinic moved address or changed its name, don't reopen the old profile. Add a new one for the new address or name instead, and ask Google to move the reviews across.

Common questions

Is it free to add a clinic on Google Maps?

Yes. Google's help page says you can add or claim your business at no charge. If someone asks for money to put your clinic on Google, they are charging for their time, not for the listing itself.

How long does verification take?

It varies, and nobody can promise a date. Google says reviews can take up to 5 business days, sometimes longer, and most postcard codes arrive within 14 days.

Can I add my clinic without a signboard?

Put the board up first. Google's guidelines say a business that shows its address should keep permanent fixed signage of its name there, and video verification asks you to film the name on a permanent board, wall or window.

What if someone else already manages my clinic's listing?

Find the clinic at business.google.com/add and select Request access. Google emails the current owner, who has 3 days to respond. If there is no reply, you may get the option to claim it. If they refuse, you can try to appeal.

My clinic has no walk-in patients (home visits only). What address do I use?

Hide the address and set a service area instead. Google's rule for service-area businesses is to remove the address and list up to 20 service areas, usually no more than about 2 hours' driving time from where you are based. If you also see patients at a clinic, add both the address and the service area.

Clinic ka naam Google Maps pe kaise badlein?

Clinic ke Google account se sign in kariye, Business Profile kholiye aur Edit profile select kariye. Naam wahi likhiye jo signboard pe hai, phir Save. Google badlav ko review karta hai, aur verified naam badalne pe dobara verify karna pad sakta hai.
