How do you set up Google Business Profiles for a clinic with more than one branch?
Updated 9 min readFacts checked
Each real clinic branch needs its own Google Business Profile; one listing cannot cover several addresses. Use the same name at every branch unless the signage genuinely differs, give each branch its own phone number and hours, and manage them together with a free business group. Bulk verification only applies at 10 or more branches.
Key takeaways
- One Google Business Profile per real branch address. A single listing cannot represent more than one location, however closely the branches are run.
- Branches should share the exact same name unless a sub-brand or a branch's own signage genuinely differs, and that variation has to be used consistently, not invented for Google.
- Each branch needs its own direct phone number and a website that represents that specific location. Google's guidelines discourage a shared central helpline number or the same generic homepage linked from every branch.
- A free business group manages any number of branches from one dashboard starting at 2 locations, but bulk verification and bulk spreadsheet editing only unlock at 10 or more, so most Indian clinic groups still edit each branch's hours and phone number one at a time.

A clinic with one branch mostly gets Google Business Profile right by accident. A clinic with three or four branches gets it wrong in specific, avoidable ways: one profile trying to cover two addresses, branch names that drift, a shared phone number that Google's own guidelines actually discourage. Here is what changes once there is more than one branch.
Does each clinic branch need its own Google Business Profile?
Yes. Google's guidelines for representing your business (opens in a new tab) set out one profile per real, physical location, full stop. A clinic group with three branches needs three separate profiles, each verified against its own address, not one profile edited to list three sets of hours or a combined service area.
What should you name each branch's listing?
The default rule is strict: Google says locations of the same business, in the same country, should use the same name. The temptation to add the area for clarity, "[Clinic name] Andheri" versus "[Clinic name] Bandra", is exactly what the guidelines rule out, unless that wording is genuinely part of the real-world signage at each branch.
| Situation | Do this | Not this |
|---|---|---|
| All branches trade under one name | The exact same name at every branch, matching the signboard outside each one | Adding the area or a branch number to only some listings, like "[Clinic name] - Andheri" |
| A branch's real signage genuinely differs | That branch's real name, used consistently on its own sign, stationery and website | A name invented only for Google that never actually appears outside the branch |
| A branch is a distinct sub-service, such as a diagnostics or day-care wing | A sub-brand name applied the same way wherever that wing operates | A one-off descriptor added to a single profile just to stand out in search |

Can branches share a phone number or a website?
Not by Google's own rules, even though many clinic groups do it anyway. The guidelines say to "provide a phone number that connects to your individual business location", to use a local number "instead of a central call-center helpline number whenever possible", and that the listed website should represent that individual location too, not a shared landing page every branch redirects to.
In practice: give each branch its own direct number, even if all of them still ring through to one front desk behind the scenes. For the website, one company domain is fine, but if that same URL sits on every branch's profile, add a page per branch, its own address, hours and phone number, and point that branch's listing at its own page rather than the generic homepage. See what an Indian clinic's website needs for the rest of what a page like that should include.
Does a doctor working at two branches need two listings?
Google's guidelines do not give multi-branch doctors a rule of their own. But the pillar guide already establishes what applies to a doctor who practises at several separate clinics: each listing needs one address, and it should only cover hours when that doctor is actually contactable there. The same logic carries over to branches of one clinic. A dentist seeing patients at Branch A on Monday and Wednesday and Branch B on Tuesday and Thursday needs a listing at each branch, not one listing claiming both addresses, and each listing's hours should show only the days that doctor is really at that branch.
For who is eligible for a personal listing at all, and how it should be named, see the pillar guide's full rules for clinic and doctor listings.
How do you manage several branches from one place?
Google's free business group is the shared dashboard for this, and it needs only 2 or more locations to set up, well below the size of most clinic chains this applies to. Owners and managers of the group can create, edit and access every branch inside it, and you can still invite someone as a manager on a single branch only, without handing them the whole group.
Step 1: Open the group, not a new account
In Business Profile Manager, choose the existing business group first, then Add location, so the new branch joins that group automatically.Step 2: Enter that branch's real details
Its own address, phone number and category, not details copied over from another branch.Step 3: Verify that one listing
A new branch goes through Google's normal verification on its own, unless the group has already crossed 10 verified locations and qualifies for bulk verification.Step 4: Give the branch its own manager
Invite someone under that single listing's People and access, without giving them the rest of the group.
When can a clinic group use bulk verification?
This is where most Indian clinic groups overestimate what "bulk" gets them. Two separate Google features are gated at 10 locations, not 2: bulk verification, and bulk add or edit by spreadsheet. A business group at 3, 5 or 8 branches gets neither.
| Tool | Minimum branches | What it actually does |
|---|---|---|
| Business group | 2 | One dashboard and shared, revocable access to every branch's own listing |
| Adding each branch | 1, no minimum | Each branch is added, named and verified the normal, one-at-a-time way |
| Bulk verification | 10, none already verified on their own | Verifies every eligible branch in one request instead of one at a time |
| Bulk spreadsheet add or edit | 10 | Adds or updates many branches' basic details from one spreadsheet upload |

Each branch's hours, phone number and category are still edited one at a time in the dashboard until the group crosses 10 locations.
Bulk verification also excludes anything that is not a straightforward chain location: a profile someone else already claimed, a duplicate, a suspended listing, or a service-area business with no public address do not count toward the 10. See how verification works branch by branch for what the normal, one-at-a-time process actually involves.
What's the checklist for opening a new branch's listing?
Most of the mistakes above happen at the moment a new branch opens, when the priority is getting patients in the door and the Google listing is an afterthought. Working through this once, before the branch opens, avoids most of them.
Before you open a new branch's Google Business Profile
Confirm it's a real, staffed address where patients are actually seen during the hours you'll list.
Decide the branch's name before touching Google, and match it to what will be on the signboard.
Add the branch inside your existing business group, not as a separate, stand-alone account.
Give the branch its own direct phone number, not one shared with another branch or a central switchboard.
Add a page for this branch on your website, its own address, hours and phone, or point the listing at one that already exists.
Enter this branch's actual hours.
Don't copy another branch's hours as a placeholder and forget to fix them later.
List which doctors are genuinely contactable at this branch, and give each one their own listing only if they qualify.
Complete verification for the new listing on its own, unless the group has already crossed 10 verified branches.

Common questions
Can one Google Business Profile represent more than one clinic branch?
No. Google's guidelines call for one profile per real business location, and a single listing covering several addresses is not allowed. Each branch, at its own street address, needs its own profile, even when every branch shares the same name, owner and booking system.
Do all our clinic's branches need to use the exact same name?
Yes, with narrow exceptions. Google says locations of the same business in the same country should use the same name. You can only vary it for a genuine sub-brand or department, or when a branch's own real-world signage consistently differs, and that variation must be used the same way everywhere, not just on Google.
Can two branches share the same reception phone number?
Google's guidelines ask for a phone number that connects directly to that specific location and prefer a local number over a central call-centre helpline. A branch profile is meant to list a number that reaches that branch, not one shared switchboard for the whole clinic group.
How many branches does a clinic need before bulk verification is worth setting up?
Bulk verification only becomes available once a business has 10 or more locations, and it excludes profiles that are already verified individually, duplicated, suspended or service-area-only. Most Indian clinic groups with 2 to 9 branches verify each one the normal way and use a free business group only to manage access from one dashboard.
Does every branch need its own page on our website, or is one company website enough?
Google's guidelines say the website listed against a profile should represent that individual location, not redirect to a generic page. One company website is fine at the domain level, but if you list that domain against several branch profiles, add a page per branch, with that branch's own address, hours and phone number, rather than pointing every listing at the same homepage.
If a doctor sees patients at two of our branches, do they need two Google listings?
Google's guidelines do not spell out a separate rule for this case; the same principle that applies to a doctor practising at several clinics applies here. A listing has one address and should cover hours when that doctor is actually contactable there, so a doctor working across two branches needs a separate listing at each branch, showing only the hours they are actually at that one.
